{"id":17,"date":"2015-11-21T09:53:21","date_gmt":"2015-11-21T17:53:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teknobilly.com\/blog\/?p=17"},"modified":"2015-11-21T09:53:21","modified_gmt":"2015-11-21T17:53:21","slug":"how-to-beat-windows-networking-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/teknobilly.com\/blog\/2015\/11\/21\/how-to-beat-windows-networking-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"How to beat Windows networking issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I was on the road this week, I had a terribly frustrating time trying to tether connect my netbook to my phone. \u00a0\u00a0Windows 8.1 was working perfectly normal except that it was unable to connect to the WiFi network aired by my phone. \u00a0\u00a0Even finding the hotspot required patience. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Other WiFi hotspots would appear, but not my phone, when it did appear the connection would fail with a simple message \u2018Could not connect to network\u2019. \u00a0\u00a0Windows system logs were not helpful.<\/p>\n<p>I had tried forgetting the hotspot to reconfigure it, I even tried re configuring the mobile WiFi hotspot on my phone. \u00a0\u00a0There was nothing I could do.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunately I found my sons Ubuntu netbook in the car, I booted it up and was able to get online to search for an answer. \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0I tried to phrase the question to Google in a way that it would get past the easy stuff and get me to the results I was looking for. \u00a0Microsoft popped up a promising lead, \u201cTroubleshooting tips for connecting to networks\u201d. \u00a0A quick read through found it was the very basic stuff, with no links to more advanced topics.<\/p>\n<p>A techy\u2019s insider tip, search technet.microsoft.com instead, content of technet is kept from general searches as it is more advanced and has a potential to break systems. \u00a0\u00a0 Once I updated the Google search to include \u201csite:technet.microsoft.com\u201d.\u00a0 Bam! I found what I was looking for.<\/p>\n<p>The fix I found was new to me and I wanted to contribute it to the collective memory as it may help future me and others if they have network issues with their windows computers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/social.technet.microsoft.com\/wiki\/contents\/articles\/28176.windows-8-1-troubleshooting-fix-wifi-connectivity-issues.aspx\">Windows 8.1 Troubleshooting: Fix WiFi Connectivity Issues<\/a> &#8211; plus more than just wifi<\/p>\n<h3 style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Reset TCP\/IP Stack<\/h3>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Misconfigured TCP\/IP settings might probably cause the issue of irresponsive Wi-Fi connection. It can easily be reset or Auto tuned through the Microsoft Windows very own Net Shell utility (netsh.exe).
